Power Options

The motor out of the box plugs into a normal 240V power point at the gate or your electrician can hard wire it to mains power. This motor has a built in battery so will continue to work if there is a power failure.

If getting 240V mains power out to your gate is difficult you can easily remove the inline plugin transformer from inside the motor and plug in at the house (or where ever a power point is available) and run a low voltage power cable out to the gate. You can install low voltage cable yourself, you don't need to be a registered electrician. The inline transformer is indoors only but can be placed inside a an optional weather proof box to protect it from the weather.

Going solar with Duraslide is also very simple the plug-in transformer is simply replaced with a 30Watt Solar Panel and built in 7.2AH SLA battery replaced with a 12Ah deep cycle AGM battery that so happens to be the same size so still fits into the motor.  If you're in a location where you don't get a lot of sun then extra solar panels maybe added, a larger solar charge controller will also be needed and an extra battery box.

Features

Fast opening (maximum 417mm per second) with soft start and soft stop.

Optional Close after a time delay (Auto-close) adjustable from 10s to 70s with party mode so can be held open if needed. Photocells are recommended when using Auto-close. The auto-close delay can be over ridden by holding the remote control button on until the gate starts opening, this will hold the gate open for extended periods if need be.

Condominium (multi-user) Mode - prevents remote controls from closing the gate, which is for when there are many users because if more than one user is trying to open the gate at the same time one could open and the other start closing it without realising it so if it can open only then there is no confusion. Must be used with auto-close.

Safety Photocell (Photo Electric Beam) facility to prevent the gate closing on a vehicle and can control closing of the gate immediately after a vehicle has past through the gate ... more about Safety Photocells

Pedestrian opening facility opens gate only part way to let people on foot in not any vehicles.

Obstruction detection, the gate will stop and reverse if it is obstructed by anything. Has separate adjustable level of sensitivity for open and close.

External display to provide handy information about the motor including:

  • Open or close status
  • Power is out running of battery
  • Battery is Low
  • Maintenance is required
  • Gate has been obstructed
  • Auto-close or party mode is active

Keyed Manual Release so the gate can be opened by hand from inside the property

Easy one touch programming of open and close limits, so is ideal for DIY installation

Ant proof housing for electronic controls improving reliability

Oil filled gearbox improving durability

Motor height is adjustable ideal for sloping driveways.

Ideal when there is limited space because it has no limit switch striker plates at each end of the gate and can because of the way the lid is locked it can be place hard up against a guide post.

Lockable lid for improve security.

2 Year Warranty for peace of mind

*Recommended Use

Suitable for all types of single piece sliding gates up to 500kg on flat ground.  Can be used if there is a slope across a driveway but the maximum weight of gate is less.

The sliding gate track must be relatively straight with no sudden rises

Maintenance Requirements

Sliding gate operators required very little maintenance although it is a good idea to remove the lid once a year and the motor checked for any ants or other small vermin. Ants and any droppings should be cleaned out, holes where they could get in sealed up with silicon sealer and repellent placed in or around the motor.

The rack should also be checked and adjusted by opening and closing the gate while looking at the output gear of the motor where it contacts the rack making sure there is a clearance of 1mm or so. If the motor runs noisy once the rack has been adjusted the motor may need to be pulled apart and gearing cleaned with new grease applied or bearing may need replacing.

The battery needs regular checking. Using a multi-meter check the voltage on the battery as the gate is being opened and closed. The voltage should hold above 12.5V on the battery if the battery is in good condition. If the battery drops below 12V during any stage of the gate movement then it needs replacing.

How this motor compares to others?

The thing that stands out the most with Duraslide is it's speed and value for money to the end user when installing a reliable sliding gate motor for residential or light commercial applications, particularly if getting power out to the gate is an issue as this motor has a very economic solar power option.

Open and close limits - Another handy feature is the fact that it doesn't use striker plates at each end of the gate so the bottom rail of the gate doesn't need to extend quite as far as motors that do, so is ideally suited to gates that have limited side room to open.

Duraslide is better suited for DIY installation than most because of the solar power option, easy one touch programming and the external LCD display assisting during installation and everyday use.

Is faster opening than most and has good remote control range in all conditions so if you live on a busy road you can have that gate open before you get to it so you can drive straight into your property without holding up traffic.

Another handy feature not seen on many motors is the ability to hold the gate open (party mode) if using the auto-close.  All other gate motors have the option to close by themselves after a time delay (auto-close) but very few allow you to hold the gate open when you need to.

Another good feature is the lockable lid that makes the motor more secure than most as you need the manual release key to be able to get the lid off the box.  This makes the motor more secure because if the lid is removed the gate can easily be opened. Most motors have a couple of standard screws holding the lid on that any one with a Philips screw driver can undo and get the lid off and open the gate.

Less desirable aspects of Duraslide is: the manual release, which is a little more fiddly than most, it has a small door that can be unlocked with a key and opened like all other brands have, but most other brands have it so the opening of this little door manually releases the motor but with Duraslide it just gives you access to a large knob that you must turn a number of times until you change from manual to automatic operation or vise versa.  And you must make sure you turn the knob well past this tipping point other wise it can jump into manual release on its own.

The other less desirable aspect of Duraslide is there is no speed adjustment so if its running too fast you can't slow it down.  Most 12V or 24V sliding gate motors have some sort of speed adjustment and because Duraslide doesn't and because it is fast, its not really suitable for Telescopic Gates that require a slower speed motor because telescopic gates run at twice the speed of a single piece sliding gate anyway and the gate would be too fast.

Battery Powered - the only other thing with motors that run off a battery is if the battery is run flat it must be charged before the motor will work, the motor cannot run directly off power and batteries do have a limited life span of 3 to 5 years.  Ok a replacement battery isn't expensive and they are available on this website or at most automotive, battery, alarm and electronics shops and it you have any sort of handyman skills you could replace it yourself, so you don't need to pay a technician to come out and replace it for you.

It's always a good idea to make sure that the power point that is used for the motors power isn't likely to be unplugged and the motor battery left to go flat after a few days use.

When using Duraslide with multiple number of users the built in receiver for remote controls is limited in the number of remote controls and if one is lost or stolen all remote controls must be deleted and the remaining ones re-programmed but Dace do have the Dura-tronic receiver that can be fitted externally from the motor and allows many more remote controls to be used and they can be removed individually even if lost or stolen, which is a lot handier if there are many users.
