Power Options

The motors out of the box are ready for your electrician to hard wire to single phase mains power. The Run 1200HS and Run 1500 are 24V motors so have the option of a built in battery backup in case mains power fails the gate will still work. The Run 2500i has a 3-phase motor controlled by an inverter that is powered from single phase 240VAC, so has no backup battery. If you would prefer a power point next to your gate a 3-pin plug and lead can easily be wired into the motor.

If getting 240V mains power out to your gate is difficult or expensive with the 24V Run motors you can choose the optional "Low Voltage Power Box" that plugs in at the house (or where ever a power point is available) so low voltage power cable can be run out to the gate. You can install low voltage power cable yourself, you don't need to be a registered electrician. If getting low voltage power out to your gate is also difficult the motors will work happily from Solar Power too although does need a separate battery box next to the motor and a solar panel of course.

Features

Six Speeds from soft start and soft stop.

Optional Battery Back up for Run 1200HS and RUN 1500 only in case power fails motor will continue to work.

Optional Close after a time delay (Auto-close) adjustable from 5s to 180s. Photocells are recommended when using Auto-close.

Optional Receiver if you don't need the motor to work from Nice Remote controls you don't need to include the Nice receiver module with the motor, you may want the gate to work with remote controls from a garage door operator or another brand of gate motor.

Blue Bus Allows devices such as Safety Photocells, Digital Keypads, RFID Readers or other motors with Blue bus to be connected to the motor with two wires to a single two wire terminal, making wiring on more complex jobs much simpler, it doesn't even mater which way around the wires are.

Optional Safety Photocell (Photo Electric Beam) to prevent the gate closing on a vehicle that can also control closing of the gate immediately after a vehicle has passed through the gate... more about Safety Photocells

Pedestrian opening facility opens gate only part way to let people on foot in not any vehicles.

Obstruction detection the gate will stop if it is obstructed by anything with eight levels of sensitivity.

Keyed Manual Release so the gate can be opened by hand from inside the property

Condominium (Apartment Block) Mode - prevents remote controls from closing the gate, which is for when there are many users because if more than one user is trying to open the gate at the same time one could open and the other start closing it without realising it so if it can open only then there is no confusion. Must be used with auto-close.

Bi-Parting Gates two motors can be connected together and synchronised using blue bus for Bi-parting gates that is two sliding gates working together on a single gate opening that open in opposite directions.

Easy programming of open and close limits, so is ideal for DIY installation

Ant proof housing for electronic controls improving reliability

Die cast Aluminium Base and gearbox

Motor height is adjustable ideal for sloping driveways.

Recommended Use

Suitable for all types of residential, commercial and Industrial sliding gates.  Can be used for telescopic gates and/or if there is a slope across a driveway but the maximum weight of gate is less.

Maintenance Requirements

Sliding gate operators require very little maintenance although it is a good idea to remove the lid once a year and the motor checked for any ants or other small vermin. Ants and any droppings should be cleaned out, holes where they could get in sealed up with silicon sealer and repellent placed in or around the motor.

The rack should also be checked and adjusted by opening and closing the gate while looking at the output gear of the motor where it contacts the rack making sure there is a clearance of 1mm or so. If the motor runs noisy once the rack has been adjusted the motor may need to be pulled apart and gearing cleaned with new grease applied or bearing may need replacing.

If a battery backup is used the Battery needs checking by removing the power from the motor and opening and closing the gate with the motor. If it runs slowly at all, stops or reversed when it shouldn't then the backup battery needs replacing.

How this Motor Compares to Others?

The thing that stands out most with Nice Run is its power and durability for the cost making it ideal when many homes or offices share one large gate.

It differs from the Dace and Centsys motors in that it doesn't run off a battery and is 24V or 3-phses 240V rather than 12V so the low voltage option runs off low voltage power from the house or where ever it is plugged in. The good thing with this is you get the advantage of low voltage power yet never need to worry about replacing the battery as the batteries generally only last 3 to 5 years depending on use.

The disadvantage of this is the low voltage cabling does need to be heavier duty than that used for trickle charging the Dace or Centsys motors.

Nice Motors all have die cast aluminium base, which tends to be more rigid than the Dace and Centsys motors that are plastic.

The method for detecting the open and close limits with Nice Run is striker plates that are fitted at each end of the gate that contact a spring like wand on the motor when the gate is either fully open or fully closed. The advantage of this system is if the power goes off when the gate is fully open, once returned the motor knows it is open so will close when next activated. Another advantage is you can tweak with the exact position that the gate will stop when fully open or closed. The disadvantages of this system is: it does require an amount of space at each end of the gate so the extension to the bottom rail does tend to be a little longer, which is fine if you have the room, but if you don't can be an issue. It is a lot more fiddly to set up the open and close limits and the striker plates can get knocked and throw the limits out.

The Dace and Centsys motors use a different system that counts the rotations of the motor as it moves and when it gets to a pre-learned position will stop.  They have a single magnet on the gate that works as a reference point to keep the gate on track so to speak although if power is lost the motor won't know where it is when power is restored. The Dace and Centsys motor both run off a battery so the likely hood of this happening is very unlikely and if it does it just means the gate will run a a crawl when first powered up until it finds the reference magnet or hits the open or close hard stop, then it will return to normal.

The Manual Release of the Nice Motors is simpler to use than the Dace or Centsys motors, which is a good thing if you get home and find your gate isn't working because the power is off and you need to quickly release is so you can open it manually, although the Dace and Centsys motors run off a battery so if the power is off they will keep working anyway so the manual release isn't so necessary.
