Nice Wingo 3524 High Speed Swing Gate Operator

Quality stylish Italian made tried and proven Worm Drive Operator for single or double swing gates to 4.5m for a single or 9m for a double, well that's assuming the gate is something like a light weight aluminium tubular gate, if it acts more like a sail, has a wide opening angle or is rising then the gate width will be less.

Is suitable for residential use or small gated communities.

In some countries the Wingo 3524 is known as the Wingo 5024, which is exactly the same motor just with a more logical name.

Opening time

For light weight gates the motor can be setup to open a gate in as little as 9s. For heavier gates this can be up to 12s because the longer the opening time the more torque is applied to the gate, which is needed for heavier gates or gates that don't allow wind to blow through so act more like a sail. The speed of the motor is set mechanically by the design of the post mounting brackets.

Hard Stops

Wingo motors all have built in hard stops, well one stop comes with it that can be used either in the open or close position. If used the the closed position there won't need to be a hard stop in the middle of the driveway. You can get an extra stop if you want so you can have them in both the open and close positions, although this does effect the usable travel of the worm drive, which isn't too much of an issue because this motor has plenty to spare unless it's it larger gate or there is a wide post with the gate set 200mm from the back of the post.

Encoder

Has an Encoder for accurate position sensing that counts the motor revolutions rather than relying on run time. This allows quicker operation because it knows precisely when to slow down near the end of travel and is safer because obstruction detection is more precise.

Recommended Use

Suitable for inward or outward opening double swing gates on a single residence or small number of residences sharing one gate. Outward opening gates can have the motors on the inside of the property with suitable post mounting brackets.

These motors are best fitted to a middle rail of a gate frame although can go on the bottom or top rail if need be.

Wiring Requirements

There only needs to be power on one side of the gate, which can either be 240V mains hardwired into the control box by your electrician or could be a power point and the control box be fitted with a 3-pin plug and lead. If getting mains power to your gate is difficult there is the option of running low voltage power, which you can do yourself with the optional "Low Voltage Power Box" or you can go solar by choosing the solar option.

For double gates a low voltage cable is also required across the driveway. You don't need to tear your driveway up for this because it is low voltage the cable can be run in an expansion gap in the concrete or between pavers.

see Installing Low Voltage cable

If you wish to install Photocells, access or exit controls then you will need extra wiring as in the drawing below:

Motor needs only a 2-core cable across the driveway, requires 210-240mm space behind an open gate (90o) and has a maximum opening angle of 115o.

MC824H Control Box that comes with the Wingo 3524

Includes:

1 or 2 x Nice Wingo 3524HS Motors with adjustable stop and keyed manual release

2 x keys for manual release.

*1 or 2 x Tongues for Gate Mounting Bracket

*1 or 2 x Tongues for Post Mounting Bracket

*OR pre-made mounting brackets if chosen (see below)

MC824H Control Box with built in: remote control receiver and Transformer.

2 x INTI2 Remote controls.

* These motors come with tongues only that fit to the motor with the intention of the installer making brackets up to suit the gate and posts, this requires steel welding. If the installer doesn't have welded facilities we can make the brackets up for you or you can use adjustable brackets that do the job but aren't as pretty.

Features:

Optional Built in Adjustable Hard Stops so no hard stops are required for the gate

Die-Cast Aluminium Casing with polyurethane finish for strength and durability with the only plastic parts being that for the electrical terminal cover and manual release.

Keyed Manual Release

2 Year warranty for added peace of mind

Soft Start and Stop to reduce shock forces on the gate.

Optional Battery Back up in case power fails motor will continue to work.

Obstruction detection the gate will stop and reverse if it is obstructed by anything with six levels of sensitivity.

Optional Auto-close - gate is opened by remote control and will close automatically after a time delay that is adjustable from 5 to 80 seconds.

Condominium Mode - prevents remote controls from closing the gate, which is for when there are many users because if more than one user is trying to open the gate at the same time one could open and the other start closing it without realising it so if it can open only then there is no confusion. Must be used with auto-close.

Programmable input for open only, close only or pedestrian opening

Adjustable Leaf Delay - for double gates a delay between the opening and closing of each leaf (side) is necessary for safety and when an overlapping stop is used between the gates and if the driveway is at an angle it is useful to be able to adjust the delay longer to make sure the correct gate closes first and opens last. Delay can be set to between 5% and 40% of the opening time

Safety Photocell (Photo Electric Beam) facility to prevent the gate closing on a vehicle. The photocell can be used to close the gate immediately after a vehicle has passed through the gate. A photocell can be used to prevent the gate from opening onto a vehicle too.... more about Safety Photocells

Pedestrian opening facility opens one side only to let people on foot in only no vehicles OR can open both sides but only half way. The same input closes the gate(s). Input is either from a remote control button or device connected to a wired input.

Hazard Light facility  flashes on and off when ever the gate is moving, is for connecting a light as a warning. Can be programmed to start flashing up to 2 seconds before the gate starts moving.

Electric Lock or Open Indicator output can be programmed for a for 24V open indicator or 12V strike lock. If programmed as an open indicator it will flash slowly while the gate is opening, remain steady when open, flash quickly when closing and go off once closed. If programmed fro an elescric lock it will go on for 3 seconds when ever the gate opens. If a courtesy light or magnetic lock is required then an MC3035 24VDC timer relay is required that can be trigger by this input from the open indicator mode.

Standby Output used to power such devices as photocells that can be put into standby (power down) 1 minute after the gate has been used to conserve power for solar systems.

Light/Heavy Gates pre sets the soft start and soft stop to work better for either lighter or heavier weight gates.

Easy programming using buttons and LEDs

Remote control buttons Multi function buttons allowing open, stop close on one button, pedestrian entry with another button, open only with another and close only with the other.

2 Year warranty for added peace of mind

Locking the Gate

If a swing gate is less than 2m wide then generally the motor will hold it well enough to lock the gate.  Any wider than 2m and the flex in the frame may allow the very end of the gate to be pushed open a little, maybe even enough for someone to squeeze through so an electric lock is recommended.

Maintenance Requirements

Open worm drive motors need very little maintenance although it is a good idea to check under the motor at the worm drive to see if it is clean annually. If contaminated with dirt this will need to be cleaned and new grease applied. This would normally only happen if the motor is down low near a gravel driveway. Operate the gate and listen for noisy bearings too that may need replacing and check that the manual release works.

To clean the worm drive, replace bearings and lubricate the manual release components the motor will need to be pulled apart, which is easily done by removing the screws from under the motor. The worm drive needs to be cleaned down with thinners and a small amount of marine grease applied to the worm. If bearings need replacing this can be done at the same time. If the manual release is not working it may need lubricating.

The control box should also be checked for ants or other small vermin inside. Ants and any droppings should be cleaned out, holes where they could get in sealed up with silicon sealer and repellent placed in or around the control box.

If the operator has a battery back up then turn the power off to the gate and operate it from the battery. If it runs slowly, stops or reverses when it shouldn't then replace the battery back up.

Mounting Brackets.

Because swing gates and the post they are hung from vary quite a bit there is no "one bracket that fits all" for fitting the motor and the point where the motor mounts onto the bracket relative to the centre of hinges for the gate effects the way the gate works, because of this the Nice Wingo from the factory comes with the tongue parts of the mounting brackets that fit onto the motor with the intention that the installer use these to weld together brackets to suit the particular gate, which is in face the way the motor is set up mechanically.

The mechanical setup can be quite complex so we at Grant's Automation have come up with some designs that will work with the most common gate layouts, these designs can be found in the quote page for the motors. Feel free to use these designs to make your own brackets OR if you're not setup for welding then we can make them for you ready to bolt on and have the motor just work properly, although this is extra and may add a week or so to the delivery time.

There are also adjustable brackets available don't need welding and check out our bracket designs to get an idea of how to place the motor relative to the gate hinge, which is the critical part.

If you're having trouble with this at all feel free to contact us for help, we have 35 years experience installing gate motors and use the latest 3D computer design tools so the brackets we design can be tested virtually in a computer before anything is made, so the installer can be rest assured that the brackets will get the best performance out of the motor and make it last as long as possible. We know more about fitting gate motors than the manufacturers because we've installed gazillions of them over the years and are fussy about they way they work.

How this operator kit compares to others?

The thing that stands out most with Nice Wingo is its value for money compared to other brands that are proven and reliable and have technical support in Australia. Nice control units are relatively easy to program if the manual is followed carefully although don't have an intuitive LCD display like the Centsys Operators nor can they adjust as many parameters.

The Nice Wingo is similar to the King Jet with the only differences being the Wingo is more budget friendly, is slower operating and fitting a magnetic lock or courtesy light to the Wingo Controller requires a timer relay to be fitted, whereas with the Jet this isn't necessary.

This style of swing gate motor is best suited to Inward Opening Gates with hinges set either flush with the back of the post or within 100mm from the back of the post, any more than this and the gate would open far enough. If the gate is more than 100mm from the back of the gate the longer Wingo 3524 can be used. Open worm drive motors in general are limited to a maximum of 115o opening angle, for a wider opening angles a longer stroke piston worm drive motor such as the Nice Titan or Centsys Vantage are more suitable.

Nice operators differ from Centsys in that they don't run off a battery and are 24V rather than 12V so the low voltage option runs off low voltage power from the house directly or where ever it is plugged in. The good thing with this is you get the advantage of low voltage power yet never need to worry about replacing the battery as the batteries generally only last 3 to 5 years depending on use. The disadvantage of this is how ever is the low voltage cabling does need to be heavier duty than that used for trickle charge power required by the Centsys operators.

The only other difference is Nice Wingo don't use an encoder (motor rotation counter) like Centsys operators do or some Nice Operators for setting the slow down points for the soft stop and obstruction detection, instead they rely on time only, which can vary with wind loading so they tend to slow down for the soft stop earlier and there is a margin at the end of travel where the obstruction detection isn't working although the motor is running at minimum speed so wouldn't have the power to do any harm to anything anyway and they still seem to work fine regardless. A plus side to not using an encoder is the cable across the driveway need only be a two core, where an encoder motor requires a five or six core, which is an issue if replacing the motor an there is only a two core cable in the ground.
