GSM/3G Audio only Intercoms

GSM and 3G Intercoms provide a wireless connection between a Gate and a House using the mobile phone network so has no range limit so long as there is mobile phone reception at the gate.  When a visitor presses the call button on the outdoor station it makes a call to a home phone or mobile, which when answered allows the visitor to talk to the occupant who can open the gate using their phone.  If no one answers a second or third number is called.

The advantage of this type of Intercom is it allows an occupant to open the gate for a visitor even if they're not at home and it can be used to open the gate with any authorised mobile phone so mobile phones can be used like remote controls.

These Intercoms do require their own SIM card and each call costs although opening the gate with a mobile phone cost nothing.

Note: some mobile phone service providers in Australia such as Telstra and Optus will be turning off their GSM networks in the next few years so its best to buy a 3G Intercom to future proof yourself from this.

GSM/3G Audio only Calling Multiple Houses, Apartments or Offices.

For established Gated Communities, Apartment or Office buildings a GSM Intercom that uses the mobile phone network and has a digital keypad allows visitors to call many different residence or office phones or mobile phones to speak to the occupant who can then open the gate using their phone. The visitor dials only the house, apartment or office number and the Intercom calls the phone number programmed into it for that occupant.

The advantage of this type of Intercom is it is wireless with no range limit so long as there is mobile phone reception eliminating the need to run cables to every house, apartment or office saving a lot of money and avoiding the mess created digging up existing landscaping to install cables.  All that is needed is a cable between the Outdoor Station and the gate motor or control box.  You can also use authorised mobile phones to open the gate like remote controls so it can be an access control system too.

These Intercoms do require their own SIM card and each call costs although opening the gate with a mobile phone cost nothing.  Best to check out what call cost is first before buying such a system, if there is a monthly rate available for unlimited calls then this is a good option.

3G Video Intercoms

3G Video Intercoms provide a wireless connection between a Gate and a House using the mobile phone network video calling feature so have no range limit so long as there is mobile phone reception at the gate.  When a visitor presses the call button on the outdoor station it makes a video call to a Smartphone that supports *video calling or audio call to other mobile phones or a landline phone, which when answered allows the visitor to talk to the occupant who can open the gate using their phone.  If no one answers a second or third number is called.

* Most Android and Windows Smart Phones support video calling although iPhones don't so a WiFi gate intercom would be a better solution.

The advantage of this type of Intercom is it allows an occupant to open the gate for a visitor even if they're not at home and it can be used to open the gate with any authorized mobile phone so mobile phones can be used like remote controls.

These Intercoms do require their own SIM card and each call costs although opening the gate with a mobile phone cost nothing.
