Hardware for Pedestrian (walk through) Gates

Pedestrian Gates are normally opened by hand, have self closing hinges and can be locked and unlocked automatically with an electric strike lock operated by a Gate Intercom, Digital Keypad, RFID Card/Fob Reader or Press button.

Electric Strike Locks come in a Flush mount or Surface mount varieties.

The Flush mount option is for gates with a knob or lever set that work much like a door handle where the electric strike lock replaces the standard strike plate.  Normally with gate frames a lock box has to be fabricated into the gate frame to fit the knob set.

The surface mount option has four varieties depending on whether the gate is inward or outward opening, left or right handed (viewed from outside the property).  For gates with a metal frame surface mounting gate locks require a mounting plate fitted to the frame or if the gate is solid timber then the lock can be fitted directly to the gate.

Its important with electric Strike Locks that when the gate is close there is no pressure on the tongue other wise the lock may not work properly.  So it must be aligned carefully so when closed there is a 1mm gap or so between the tongue or the latch and the strike plate/lock.

Magnetic Locks for Pedestrian Gates

In a situation where a pedestrian gate is exposed to a lot of general public, gets a lot of use, has timber posts, the gate is near large trees or the ground is very reactive then a strike lock may jam up or not contact properly leaving the gate unlocked.  A Magnetic Lock may be a better alternative and is fitted to the gate much like a single swinging driveway gate.
