No-weld Infill Panels or Screens
Introduction

Infill panels for concrete or brick walls or free fitting screens with horizontal or vertical slats can be made without a frame because the slats fit directly into No-weld slotted stiles or rails that fit directly to walls or other mounts making efficient use of material. Infill panels or screens can be up to 3.2m wide x 2m high.
No-weld stiles, rails and aluminium slats may have many different finishes READ MORE

Things to Consider
Slat widths. The most popular slat width is 65mm, which is 16mm thick but you can also have 38mm, 100mm or 150mm wide slats all 16mm thick.
Gate Height verses Slat Gap and Spacer width. No-weld Infill panels or screen can have any gap. The spacers can be cut to any width and clipped in between slats so they not only set the gap but fill it in for a nice clean finish, although spacers are only practical from 8mm or wider. Slats can be hard up against each other too with no gap at all if desired.
The exact gap depends on how the slats fit into the chosen height, if you want a panel 1500mm high with 20mm gaps you will require 18 x 65mm slats with an actual gap of 17.368mm that's if they're mill finish. If the slats are powder coated or have a finish that looks like wood the slats are actually about 65.3mm wide, which may not seem much more but the extra 0.3mm x 18 = 5.4mm so the gap would need to be reduced to 17.084mm if the slats are to fit neatly into the height of 1500mm.
If there's no gap at all the exact height of the panel will be determined by the slat count. That is if you want a gate 1500mm high using 65mm wide slats with no gap you will need 23 x slats, which will be 1495mm high if they are mill finish. If powder coated this adds 0.3mm per slat so will in fact be 1501.9mm high. The stiles would need to be cut to this length.
Making No-weld Infill Panels or Screen kits yourself.
If you're in the gate or fence business and want to save money as well as get jobs done faster (customers like it done fast), you can do so by making No-weld Infill Panel or Screen kits up yourself. All you need is a good mitre saw, lengths of No-weld framing, slats and hardware. If you keep No-weld materials in stock you could custom make infill panels or screen kits up yourself in a matter of hours onsite, assemble them and then install so you don't need a workshop just somewhere to store the material and a suitable vehicle. This will give you a significant edge over your competition both time wise and price wise.
You can order No-weld framing, slats and hardware at the No-weld Online Shop.
Making these panels or screens requires very clean right angle cuts, for technique on how to cut No-weld Framing accurately and cleanly with no burrs see our our Guide to Cutting and Drilling No-weld Framing. There are other styles of gates too see What can be Made with No-weld

Installation Instructions for No-weld Infill Panels or Screens with Horizontal Slats

Fit the pre-cut stiles to the walls first or what ever the panel or screen is to fit too. The open back faces should be inside the property or at the back.

Slide the first slat in from the top to align with the bottom. Use a cordless drill and the screws provided to screw the slat to the frame.

Clip pre-cut spacers into the slot on each side hard up against the slat. This not only sets the gap between slats it also fills the slot in.
See Guide to fitting No-weld Spacers for technique for clipping spacers in.

Slide the next slat down and hard up against the spacers. Then clip in more spacers, another slat and repeat until all slats are fitted.

Then screw the rest of the slats in with the cordless drill.

If the Infill Panel or Screen is wider than 1.5m it will need a vertical support screwed onto the back of the slats as well.

Back covers are then clipped into the back of the stiles and the vertical support if there is one to cover the screws .
See Guide to Fitting No-weld Covers for technique on how to do this.

Finally glue caps on the top of the stiles with plumbers silicon. If the Panel is to fit into a hole in a wall that is slats cannot be slid in from the top then the same method for fitting vertical slats is used (see below) and no caps are required.

Slats can be fitted to the front of the No-weld box section stiles with holes drilled into the open back so the slats can be screwed on from behind and not be seen. No spacers would be needed.
Installation Instructions for No-weld Infill Panels or Screens with Vertical Slats

Fit the pre-cut rails to the walls first or what ever the infill panel or screen is to be fit too. Suitable brackets will be supplied. The open back faces should be inside the property or facing to the back.

Clip pre-cut spacers into the slot in the top and bottom rails hard up against the wall. This not only sets the gap between slats it also fills the slot in.
See Guide to fitting No-weld Spacers for technique for clipping spacers in.

Then fit the first slat by sliding it hard up into the slot in the top rail and back down into the slot in the bottom rail by 15mm. Then fit at least one screw into the slat with a cordless drill to hold it in place. The other screws can be fitted later.

Clip in more spacers then fit the next slat using the same technique. Then clip in more spacers, another slat and repeat until all slats are fitted.

Back covers are then clipped into the back of the rails to cover the screws.
See Guide to Fitting No-weld Covers for technique on how to do this.

The panel is now finished there are no caps required unless it is a screen where the rails are seen.

Slats can be fitted to the front of the No-weld box section rails with holes drilled into the open back so the slats can be screwed on from behind and not be seen. No spacers would be needed.
