MB-3-360 - Mounting Brackets for Outward Opening Gates on a Narrow Post

Making the installation of worm drive swing gate motors easier and looking good.

Suitable for:

Outward Opening Gates on narrow metal or timber posts set 50mm from the back of the post using a King Jet Swing gate motor fitted inside the property. The hinges with this style of gate would normally be trunnion and gudgeon or similar centred with the gate frame.

What's in the Box

Gate Mounting Bracket (GMB) that can be bolted to aluminium or timber gates or self drilling screws can be used for steel framed gates.

Post Mounting Bracket (PMB) that is fitted hard up against the hinge edge of the post so the gate will open up to 90o although the motor protrudes into the gate opening by 220mm. If the hinge is more than 27mm off the post the PMB can be fitted to the hole in the PMB further from the post so will protrude into the opening by 240mm or so.

The way it works

When the gate is operated there is a geared electric motor that turns a 'worm' or 'acme screw' as the engineers like to call it that drives a nut in a straight line or 'linear' direction. This nut then connects to the gate mounting bracket (GMB) to either push the gate open or pull it closed (vise versa for inward opening gates). The amount the nut can travel is called the stroke.

The point where the motor mounts onto the Post Mounting Bracket (PMB) is critical to the way the motor works, it must be offset from a line between the hinge and where the motor fits onto the gate (the Gate Line) before the gate will move. The larger the offset the better the motor will hold the gate when closed and the more force it can apply to the gate. The offset must be maintained throughout the whole opening cycle, which is determined by a number of factors including: the stroke, opening angle of the gate, length of the GMB, positioning of the gate relative to the hinge etc...

This PMB has been designed to

Use almost the full stroke of the motor to provide the maximum amount of force on the gate throughout the whole open cycle. If the gate is set flush with the back of the post and opens to 90o it can be made to run 20% faster using this PMB because it doesn't use the full amount of the stroke, which does have the side effect of reducing the force it can apply to the gate thus reducing the maximum width of gate the motor can be used for ... more
