No-weld Face Mounted Colorbond Gates

Introduction

Gates with Face Mounted Colorbond sheeting have the sheeting screwed directly to the front of a No-weld Box Section frame with the edges trimmed with aluminium angles. Sheeting may be fitted Horizontally or Vertically with aluminium angles riveted to the edges gives a unique clean look because there are no welds and no screws visible. Swing gates can go up to 4m wide x 2m high and sliding gates 6m wide x 2m high. Gates wider than 1.5m that have horizontal sheeting require middle styles behind the sheeting.

Things to Consider

Colorbond Sheeting of any profile can be used

Sheet widths. Colorbond sheeting is 820mm wide or so but must be overlapped, which means sheets not at the ends cover 760mm. Generally full sheets are used with the last once being trimmed to fit. An advantage of fitting the Colorbond sheeting to the front of the frame is it can be done once the frame is installed.

Making No-weld Face Mounted Colorbond Gate Kits yourself.

If you're in the gate or fence business and want to save money as well as get jobs done faster (customers like it done fast), you can do so by making No-weld Colorbond gate kits up yourself. All you need is a good mitre saw, lengths of No-weld framing and hardware. If you keep No-weld materials in stock you could custom make Colorbond gate kits up yourself in a matter of hours onsite, assemble them and then install, so you don't need a workshop just somewhere to store the material and a suitable vehicle. This will give you a significant edge over your competition both time wise and price wise.

Assembly Instructions for No-weld Colorbond On Frame Gates

All Frame members placed on blocks

Place the pre-cut and drilled frame members on clean blocks of polystyrene foam or similar non-scratching material laid out on a flat surface with the open back faces up.

Corner brackets are required to hold the frame together. These are fitted by sliding them into the ends of the top and bottom rails to begin with, which have grooves in both sides to help guide the bracket in.

Then slide the stiles onto the corner brackets of the top rail. The stiles also have grooves either side to help guide the brackets in.

Gates with horizontal sheeting wider than 1.5mm require one or more middle stiles (one every 1.5m) that are screwed to the frame with small angle brackets pre-fitted to the frame. Slide the top of any middle stiles onto these brackets.

Then slide the bottom rail onto the end stiles, followed by any middle stiles.

Then fit four larger tek screws into each corner bracket using a cordless drill in the pattern illustrated to hold the frame together for now.

Once screwed together check the diagonals of the frame to make sure it is square, if not loosen all bracket screws, adjust the diagonals so they are the same then tighten the screws back up again. The rest of the screws can now be fitted.

Covers are then clipped into the back of the frame to cover the screws. See Guide to Fitting No-weld Hardware for technique on how to do this. 

Finished Gate Frame

Flip the frame over to fit the Colorbond Sheeting or the sheeting could be fitted after the frame is installed.

Screw each sheeting to the frame using the smaller text screws where ever the sheeting touches the frame as close to the middle of the frame members as possible.

Make sure each sheet overlaps so no gap is seen between the sheets.

Then rivet the angles to the frame, which cover the screws and rivet sheeting to any middle stiles. The gate is now ready for fitting hardware such as hinges, latch, stop or guide rail to the back of the frame. See Guide to Fitting No-weld Hardware.
